I have a diary I bought for about a dollar and a quarter on sale and now I see why it was on sale. Not too long after I started writing it it, the pages started to fall out and now nearly all of them are out. I want to fix it, but I’m not sure what to do. The pages apparently were just glued into it, and I wouldn’t mind gluing them back in but I don’t want to make a huge mess. Does anyone know what type of glue to use? Any tips on how to avoid making a mess?
Also, if you ever see a Gremlins diary marked down really cheap don’t buy it because it’s a piece of crap!!
Well, you can bunch all of the pages together. And then glue gun the end where the glue was previously. I tried that and it worked. Otherwise, you should buy another one and stick the loose diary entries in there.
I have repaired old books using Elmer’s glue. I use the original white type. I very carefully put it on the very edge of the page using a tooth pick. When you get the entire edge coated then stick it in. Don’t put on so much that you will get drips or runs. Close the book and let sit overnight. It should stay put.
The traditional method is to use "Rubber Cement". Read the directions and follow them. It is a *two* step process. If you try to do it in just one step, you won’t get a permanet bond. *Be sure* to have a well-ventilated area. The fumes are both poisonous and flammable.
I’ve used Elmer’s Glue for similar repairs and it fell apart after a decade or so.
In my personal experience, hot glue eventually became brittle and makes a bulkier mend than Rubber Cement.
