I think that Diary is a great book, I am also a huge fan of Chuck Palaniuk, I love he way he gives an in depth description and have loved all of his works. Diary isnt my favorite, if you liked it I would highly recomend you check out his book Survivor, by far his best work, and also Choke.

I thought this book was worth the read, I loved the entire story.

I am just reading it, actually. I’m about a quarter of the way through, and there are times when it’s a little hard to follow. If you’ve read other Chuck P books, you’ll understand it better: his style, where he’s coming from, etc.

So far I think it’s very interesting. Very messed up *laugh* but very interesting. I think it’s descriptive enough to create a very powerful image. I have a perfect image of Waytansea Island in my head.

Diary is a powerful example of a story within a story examining on another level the very nature of art, artists, the creative genius and its blurred lines between patronage, support, and manipulation/exploitation. When you think of your own journaling or diaries themselves, they are a person’s way of recording what is happening in their lives according to their own perception of reality. Can the narrator be trusted to relate what is true? This story is extremely rich when read with these musings. One could also then explore what Palahniuk is saying about his own process as a writer (and a gifted one at that) and the writing process and even the subtle symbols of what the construction worker leaves behind….what does any one of us leave behind? What will our mark (creatively, artistically, financially) be to the world as a whole.

Another book to read alongside of this one is DeLillo’s The Body Artist.
